Oyster cultivation during rising tide is a photo I took at an oyster farm in the Bay of Cancale in France during a sunny day in early autumn.
Cancale is a charming town on the French Emerald Coast in Haut Brittany that is known worldwide for its oyster farming. Since 2019, oyster farming in Cancale has even been included on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
At low tide there is a coming and going of boats, tractors and people are busy. As soon as the tide comes in and the water approaches the quay of the bay, peace returns until the next low tide.
I photographed “Oyster cultivation during rising tide” with a long exposure time. The reason for this is twofold. On the one hand to enhance the restored peace in the image and on the other hand to focus on the oyster beds, which have been laid out in a beautiful, structured manner.
