1. Who are you, what do you do, and what gear do you prefer?
I'm Ruud, balancing my job in the travel industry with owning Nuance Beeld. Photography has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. From the days of film rolls to digital photography, I've witnessed incredible advancements in the field. The ability to capture and share detailed shots worldwide is truly remarkable, alongside the quality of the images.
Gear:
I've always been a Canon enthusiast. However, over the years, I've realized that the camera, despite personal preferences, is merely a tool. The most crucial element lies behind the camera... and that's you, the photographer.
2. Which photography style do you prefer?
Photography offers too much diversity for me to choose just one style. I enjoy capturing landscapes as much as cityscapes. Whether it's the tranquility of dawn or the magic of dusk, playing with light is what excites me the most. Utilizing long exposures in changing light conditions creates some of the most captivating and versatile shots.
3. Who is your major influence/inspiration in photography?
Regarding my photography idol, the answer to this question is nuanced. Along the way, I've encountered numerous sources of inspiration. I derive immense energy from the work of various photographers, whether they're professionals or talented hobbyists. One photographer whose work consistently inspires me is Peter McKinnon. In my opinion, he creates breathtaking shots.
4. What is your favorite piece of your own work?
Anticipating this question, I knew it would be a tough choice. It took me a while to purchase and hang one of my own photos in my home. I felt conflicted, fearing it would diminish the beauty of my other work. After much deliberation, I settled on a photo of De Hef, printed in black and white on acrylic. I chose acrylic because it minimizes reflection and adds depth to the photo.
5. What tip/trick would you like to share with every other photographer?
The tip I'd like to share is... enjoy! Enjoy the hobby, the moments, the surroundings, and continuously challenge yourself with new subjects and techniques. They say practice makes perfect!
