Watercolour dune landscape inspired by a sheep shed (Schapenboet) on the Wadden island of Texel (The Netherlands) - by Dutch artist and illustrator Hans Sturris (1992)
In the 1960s, there were over 100 sheep sheds on the Wadden island of Texel. These sheds served as storage for hay and other feed for the island's sheep. They are therefore also called schapenboet (or skéépeboet in Tessels dialect). Actually, there were never any sheep in a pen; the barn was too small for that, and now there are just under 70 of them left.
Fifty-five boets have Rijksmonument status. The policy of the municipality of Texel aims to preserve all sheep pens for the island. (text taken from www.texel.net)
Later painted in response to several other works made on the Wadden island of Texel. Floating above the landscape, the artist added two seagulls.
